• Smooth flat surface* - unlike other flat panels there is NO junction box protruding from the surface that can catch ropes sails or your feet (*this feature is available now on 40W Compact modules and the 20W Bluewater modules, it will gradually be introduced on other models later).
• More efficient, use less space - made with monocrystalline silicon cells which convert more solar energy to electricity (and generate less heat) than other photovoltaic materials.
• Semirigid - you can step on them and they can be mounted on a slightly curved deck or cabin roof.
• Light-weight -there is no heavy glass surface, frame nor steel plate, better for racing!
• Rugged - sealed with a durable Tefzel® surface, the back of the unit is protected by an corrosion resistant aluminum plate that does not leave rust spots like many "stainless" panels, module is salt water proof to IP67.
• Esthetically pleasing - Scandinavian engineering skill married to French design flair!
Construction: Monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic cells mounted on anodized aluminum* coated with white Tedlar®, surface laminated with transparent Tefzel®. This construction provides higher strength than conventional framed panels. The smaller heat loss of monocrystalline cells combined with the heat sink properties of the aluminum plate keep temperatures cooler than other flat panels (including 40 cell units, see Ask the Experts). Photovoltaic cells loose power when the temperature rises.
Mounting: Aurinco panels are semirigid, they bend slightly (about 3-4%). For a more curved surface, you can use marine grade rubber mouldings under the edges to compensate for cam. Use polyurethane adhesive/sealant (see Accessories) which tolerates high temperatures, salt water, vibration and shocks for gluing the panels to the surface. Alternatively panels can be fixed using screws or a frame.
