Photovoltaic modules with features not found elsewhere:
• smooth flat surface* - unlike competitive panels there is NO junction box protruding from the surface that can catch ropes sails or your feet (*this feature is available now on 40W Compact modules and the 20W Bluewater modules, it will gradually be introduced on other models later)
• use less space - they use monocrystalline silicon to provide more energy per surface area than modules using other types of silicon
• light-weight - there is no heavy glass surface nor frame
• rugged - sealed with a durable Tefzel® surface that tolerates being stepped on, the back of the unit is protected by an corrosion resistant aluminum plate, module is salt water proof to IP67
• esthetically pleasing - having a sleek design
Construction: Monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic cells mounted on anodized aluminum* coated with white Tedlar®, surface laminated with transparent Tefzel®. This construction provides higher strength but also enhanced efficiency compared to traditional photovoltaic modules because the aluminum plate functions as a heat sink. Photovoltaic cells loose power when the temperature rises.
*the Mini panels use polyimide instead of aluminum
Mounting: Recommended method is using the Aquasure™ special formula polyurethane adhesive/sealant (see Accessories) which tolerates high temperatures, salt water, vibration and shocks. When mounting on a slightly curved deck or cabin roof, you can use marine grade rubber mouldings under the edges to compensate for cam.
Semi-rigid or flexible panels? Aurinco modules are semirigid, they bend slightly but are not truly flexible. Panels using thin films of amorphous silicon or other semiconductors can be made more flexible, but require almost twice as much surface for the same amount of energy.
